TWO WEEKS OF IMPACT: HEALTH & WELLNESS ACTIVATIONS ACROSS CAMPUSES

The Student Support & Development Services team (SSDS) wrapped up two vibrant weeks of engagement across all campuses during our Health & Wellness Activations, in partnership with Higher Health (HH). Students accessed key services including:

  • Health checks & family planning from local clinics
  • Blood donation drive (13 new donors at Paarl Campus)
  • Financial literacy with ABSA & Nedbank
  • Voter registration with the IEC
  • Job seeker registration with the Department of Labour
  • Road Safety Awareness from the Western Cape Government
  • DKMS Africa, which is dedicated to recruiting stem cell donors, raising awareness, and providing life-saving transplants to patients with blood cancer and disorders
  • CANSA and Virgin Active were also part of Paarl’s Activations, which the students enjoyed.

In line with our GBVF 100 Day Challenge, SAPS led GBV awareness. Campuses displayed banners, encouraging students and staff to pledge their support against GBVF. In our stand against GBVF, all students and staff will be joining our campaign to wear black on Wednesdays.

August, being Women’s Month, provided a meaningful opportunity to engage and empower women through targeted workshops and initiatives that addressed their unique challenges and strengths. Women’s Month Highlights included an empowerment session and self-defence workshop for 38 female students, hosted in partnership with Stellenbosch Municipality. The session began with an informative and motivational talk, followed by self-defence demonstrations in which the students were actively encouraged to participate.

Finally, the Boys to Men programme launched on 22 August, focusing on leadership and development for young men in hostels, in partnership with Mr Jantjies from the Western Cape Government.

Thank you to all our partners and students who made these weeks meaningful and empowering!
