Values

The Boland College brand lives its values of a culture of inclusivity, openness and transparency, efficient and ethical work habits, teamwork and cooperation with our strategic partners and enabling individuals to reach their full potential.

Boland College serves the needs of the widespread Boland area

Boland College serves the needs of the widespread Boland area by providing affordable, lifelong, quality education and training in line with the social and economic needs of the community. We, at Boland College, understand that South Africa with its different sectors need employers and employees with above-average skills and that is why our programmes are intended to directly respond to the priority skills demands of the Boland, as well as South African, economy.

Our qualifications provide theory and practical experience

Our qualifications are designed to provide both the theory and practical experience related to a particular vocational field. This ensures access to work opportunities in a work environment or sector relevant to the student’s vocational specialisation.

Boland College’s Management commits itself to ensuring that the quality of its education and training services will be determined and guided by its vision, mission, values and quality objectives.

Vision

To be a preferred and inclusive provider of post-school education and training in wider Boland region.

Mission

It is the mission of Boland College to provide quality training in response to education and skills development needs.

VALUE #1 OF 5

A Culture of Inclusivity

We reject any form of discrimination and make every effort to maintain an environment where everyone feels welcome.

THIS VALUE IN ACTION
As with our “No to Xenophobia” initiative in 2015, our dedication to an inclusive society on campus is also perfectly exemplified by our support structures for disabled students. From providing extra time in examinations, to ensuring that students have access to scribes or readers – we always strive to offer fair opportunities for all.

This is in large part facilitated by our department of Student Support Services (SSS), who deal with student-related issues on all our campuses.

VALUE #2 OF 5

Openness and Transparency

We build accountability and trust by offering unrestricted access to information and knowledge.

THIS VALUE IN ACTION
Boland College is no stranger to internal or external audits; being one of the first TVET Colleges to be certified by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS). As a result, the college now undergoes an annual SABS recertification audit during which the processes and operations of departments such as Education and Training, Quality Management, Marketing and Communication, Human Resources, etc. are all thoroughly inspected.

Should any non-conformances be identified, the college is then given a chance to make changes that will bring the operations in line with the standards set out by the SABS.

VALUE #3 OF 5

Efficient and Ethical
Work Habits

We work hard and efficiently, driven by integrity and a conviction to always do the right thing.

THIS VALUE IN ACTION

The efficiency with which we operate can be seen in every aspect of our institution. Whether looking at student registration, staff procurement, lecturing or management, Boland College operates like a well-oiled machine. And it’s this efficiency that has made us one of the top TVET Colleges in the Western Cape, if not South Africa, with accolades such as “Best throughput rate in the sector” – achieved at the TVET College Conference in 2014.

Add to that our strong ethical foundation exemplified by fair employment practices and clearly defined Codes of Conduct for staff and students – and it’s safe to say that our work habits already reflect this value quite nicely.

VALUE #4 OF 5

Teamwork and Cooperation with our Strategic Partners

We share knowledge and collaborate with others to achieve our individual and mutual goals.

THIS VALUE IN ACTION
Boland College has a Statement of Intent for future cooperation with two Norwegian Colleges, Bergeland Videregaende Skole and Haugaland Videregaende Skole. The aim of this statement is to consider developing common and mutually beneficial relationships in which the colleges agree to:

Participate in education, training and cultural ventures; Investigate the possibilities of facilitating the transfer of knowledge, skills and competence at all levels; Maintain regular communication to promote a sense of mutual understanding and sharing; and Organise cultural exchanges between themselves.

As such, Boland College has sent staff and students to Norway in previous years and takes great pleasure in hosting international partners here annually.

VALUE #5 OF 5

Enabling individuals to reach their full potential

We facilitate the development of individuals as a means to empower the communities we serve and operate in.

THIS VALUE IN ACTION
Although self-motivation plays a big role in any student’s success, Boland College does provide students with a solid foundation from which to fulfil their potential. One such student is Cor van Mollendorf, a Boland College graduate and past employee who has gone on to achieve great success as a Financial Manager in London.

However, it’s not just our quality programmes that enable students to become all they can be. In recent years, Boland College has also introduced a new department called Work Integrated Learning (WIL), which specifically assists students in gaining placements for their internship periods and offers valuable training to prepare them for the commencement thereof.
