Institutional excellence and individual dedication recognised as Boland College secures two prestigious national agricultural accolades.
Boland College has reinforced its standing as a leading institution in agricultural education and skills development, securing two prestigious national accolades at the South African Agricultural Awards 2026, held on 16 October 2026.
Nominated in three categories, the College emerged victorious in two, receiving the Top Performing TVET and CET in Agriculture award, while Mr Vincent Uys, Head of Department: Farming Management and Mechanisation, received a special award recognising his outstanding contribution to the agricultural sector.
The double achievement marks a significant milestone for Boland College, recognising both institutional excellence and the dedication of individuals committed to advancing agricultural education, innovation and practical skills development.
At a time when South Africa’s agricultural sector faces increasing demands for sustainable production, technological advancement and a skilled workforce, the recognition highlights the critical role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in preparing graduates to meet these challenges.
Mr Charles Goodwin, Principal of Boland College, described the achievement as a powerful affirmation of the institution’s strategic direction and its responsibility to contribute meaningfully to national skills development priorities. “These awards represent far more than institutional recognition. They affirm our commitment to delivering relevant, high-quality education that responds to the changing needs of industry and contributes to South Africa’s economic development. Agriculture remains fundamental to our country’s food security, sustainability and economic growth, and TVET colleges have an important responsibility to develop the skilled professionals who will drive this sector forward,” said Mr Goodwin.
He emphasised that the College’s success reflects a collective commitment to educational excellence. “Institutional excellence is never achieved in isolation. Behind every successful student and every institutional milestone are dedicated lecturers, committed support staff, strong leadership and industry partners who share our vision. These awards belong to the entire Boland College community and recognise the collective effort required to create meaningful opportunities for our students. They also challenge us to continue raising the standard of what we deliver,” he added.
Complementing the College’s institutional achievement, Mr Uys’s individual recognition celebrates his dedication to agricultural education, innovative approaches to practical training and commitment to developing future agricultural professionals.
Through his work in Farming Management and Mechanisation, Mr Uys continues to demonstrate the importance of bridging theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring that students develop the technical competencies, problem-solving abilities and industry awareness required in modern agriculture.
Reflecting on the recognition, Mr Uys highlighted the evolving demands of the agricultural industry and the responsibility of educators to prepare students for its future. “Agriculture is no longer simply about traditional farming practices. It is an increasingly dynamic industry that demands innovation, adaptability, technical expertise and a commitment to sustainability. As educators, our responsibility is not only to transfer knowledge but to develop confident, capable individuals who can apply their skills, embrace new technologies and find solutions to real agricultural challenges,” said Mr Uys.
“Receiving this recognition is an incredible honour, but the true measure of our success lies in the students who leave our classrooms and make meaningful contributions to the industry. Every practical skill mastered, every challenge overcome and every graduate who succeeds represents the lasting impact of agricultural education. I am privileged to share this recognition with the colleagues, students and industry partners who make that possible,” he added.
The South African Agricultural Awards provide a national platform for recognising excellence, innovation and meaningful contributions to the agricultural sector. Boland College’s achievements demonstrate the vital connection between quality vocational education, industry collaboration and the development of a sustainable agricultural workforce.
For the College, these accolades represent both a celebration of achievement and a renewed commitment to its educational mandate. By strengthening partnerships, advancing practical and innovative teaching approaches and maintaining programmes that respond to industry needs, Boland College continues to position its students for meaningful participation in South Africa’s agricultural economy.
The double victory is not only recognition of what Boland College has achieved, but also a testament to the impact that dedicated educators, institutional collaboration and quality vocational training can have on the future of an entire industry.
As Boland College celebrates this national recognition, its focus remains firmly on the future: developing skilled graduates, supporting agricultural innovation and contributing to a resilient, competitive and sustainable agricultural sector.
