We take immense pride in our students who excel not only academically but also in various other pursuits. Thokozane Myeni and Athenathi Mateke, Level 2 OA students at Boland College in Worcester, have been selected to represent the Western Cape in the National Deaf Soccer League, scheduled for August 16-17, 2024, in Johannesburg. This league is organized by the South African Deaf Football Association (SADFA), the national governing body for Deaf football clubs and provincial associations across South Africa.
South Africa boasts a vibrant deaf community, comprising over 4 million individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Boland College recognizes the educational rights of D/deaf and hard-of-hearing students and is proud to welcome 14 students with hearing impairments this semester.
Engaging in sports offers numerous advantages. Beyond the physical benefits, research shows that activities like football enhance cognitive function, concentration, and coordination. Additionally, sports foster social skills, including teamwork and self-confidence. As the adage goes, a healthy body nurtures a healthy mind. We commend students who engage in activities that complement their academic pursuits.
Boland College is immensely proud of Thokozane and Athenathi and the talents they contribute to the league. We recognize them as ambassadors for both Boland College and the Western Cape.
