New Principal For Boland TVET College

On 1 December 2021, Mr Charles Goodwin, commenced in his new position as the Principal at Boland TVET College.

Mr Goodwin qualified as a teacher through the University of Stellenbosch at the Onderwys Kollege Boland and started his career in the field of education in 1995 at Oude Molen Technical School as part of their Engineering department. During this time he authored several Mechanical Technology textbooks and learning material for End-user Computing. Progressing through the ranks he was later the Head of Department and ultimately he held the position of Deputy Principal.

In 2009 Mr Goodwin left the Basic Education sector and moved into the Technical Vocational Education & Training (TVET) sector when he was appointed as the Campus Manager at the Westlake Campus of False Bay TVET College (FBC).

In 2013 he was promoted to Deputy Principal: Corporate Services which gave Mr Goodwin a much larger corporate management experience. As with so many people in the field of education and training the motto of lifelong learning certainly also rings true for Mr Goodwin.

In 2015 he completed his Bachelor of Education honours degree through UNISA specialising in Education Management. The field of study was:

  • Education in the context of South Africa
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Organisational behaviour and education law
  • Theory and research in education
  • Managing the institution as an organisation

Mr Goodwin expressed his delight in taking up his new position at Boland College. “I am passionate about helping young people to achieve their dreams and pursuing careers in vocations and occupations.

Quality vocational/occupational education can make a real difference in the lives of young people and build society by providing quality education and training and meaningful workplace opportunities.”

When asked about his vision and goals for Boland College Mr Goodwin has a firm idea of what he wants to achieve.  His vision and goals are to:

  • Maintain high academic standards
  • Ensure sound business processes that enable clean audit outcomes
  • Foster and drive innovation in the classroom and business processes to improve academic and administrative performance
  • Modernisation of infrastructure
  • Take a firm stand on issues of Gender-Based Violence
  • Grow partnerships and increase collaboration with the Universities and other TVET Colleges
  • Focus on staff and student wellness and support services

With approximately 26 years of experience in the education sector Mr Goodwin shared one of the most valuable lessons he has learned in that time. He feels it is important to know that no achievements of significant value can be accomplished on one’s own, however, teamwork and collaboration have the potential to bring about tremendous positive change.

Keeping that valuable lesson in mind Mr Goodwin enjoys working collaboratively with people to innovatively solve problems and continuously improve systems and processes to enhance performance. He feels this is also one of the most exciting parts of his job.

Boland College is excited about the new phase the institution is entering with Mr Goodwin at the helm.

As per Mr Goodwin’s favourite quote by the late Madiba; “It always seems impossible until it’s done” Boland College is looking towards the future and we are looking forward to what it holds for our institution.
