Art & Science of Teaching

The subject Art and Science of Teaching addresses the whole context of learning and instruction, and the activities involved in being a good teacher. It is the science and theory of educating and learning. The focus of this subject is on the art and science of teaching children, adolescents, adults and senior adults.

Learning Psychology

The subject Learning Psychology is a study that seeks an understanding of how humans learn. Learning Psychology (Psychology of Learning) can be viewed as a theoretical science which seeks understanding of learning for its own sake. The main focus of this subject will be from an educational discipline and practical application perspective that studies strategies for putting Learning Psychology to work for educational purposes. The application perspective comprises psychological dimensions such as theories of human learning, critical elements of learning, developmental psychology, personality and temperament theories, individual abilities and differences, the effects of nature and nurture on intelligence and learning styles. Practical interpretations and applications of Learning Psychology will be made in various contexts.

Human & Social Development

Human and Social Development comprise the study of the life stages of human beings and the ways in which groups of human beings function in societies. Human and Social Development explores the ways in which young children learn, and the ways in which their families and schools educate and teach them. The subject is concerned with the entire lifespan from birth to death, and with social issues that impact on education. This subject is very closely integrated with the two core subjects of the Education and Development programme: Learning Psychology and Art and Science of Teaching.

Early Childhood Development

Develops the basic knowledge necessary to understand how children grow, develop and learn from birth and through early schooling. Since the development of children is informed both by biology and context, the subject addresses relevant universal understandings and issues of inclusion and diversity.
