Boland College once again brought its voice to the airwaves with a full-day live broadcast on Paarl FM, marking its second radio takeover in partnership with the community station. The event showcased the College’s continued commitment to student voice, innovation, and engagement within the TVET sector.

On Thursday, 21 May 2026, staff, students, and leadership from across Boland College campuses took to the airwaves for a dynamic 12-hour live broadcast from 06:00 to 18:00. The takeover formed part of the College’s ongoing stakeholder engagement and marketing strategy, designed to highlight academic excellence, institutional transformation, and student development.

The day featured a diverse line-up of live interviews, discussions, music segments, and interactive conversations that reflected the vibrancy of Boland College life. Representatives from various campuses and departments shared insights into the exciting new Occupational Certificate programmes, student leadership, student support services, e-learning initiatives, entrepreneurship, and workplace readiness.

A key focus throughout the broadcast was the evolving TVET landscape, including the transition towards Occupational Certificate programmes and the growing integration of digital and blended learning approaches. These discussions reinforced Boland College’s commitment to future-focused education that responds to industry needs.

One of the standout moments of the day was the inspiring interview with the SRC President and Vice President, Ms Erika Mostert and Ms Agreement Mbedzi. Their conversation offered powerful insight into what it truly means to be student leaders at Boland College. They reflected on their journeys as women in leadership, spoke candidly about the challenges students face, and shared some of those uniquely “only at Boland College” moments that define the student experience.

What stood out most was the authenticity and passion with which they spoke. It was evident that both leaders speak from the heart and are deeply committed to their roles — not only as representatives of the student body, but as advocates dedicated to ensuring that every student voice is heard and meaningfully represented across Boland College.

The importance of entrepreneurship and innovation was also strongly emphasised, with staff sharing how the College actively encourages students to develop creative thinking skills through competitions and applied learning opportunities. These initiatives aim to prepare students not only for employment, but also for active participation in the broader economy.

Beyond its on-air success, the day also strengthened Boland College’s connection with the broader community through the application station hosted outside the studio. Community members were invited to apply for Semester 2 programmes with the support and guidance of trained staff, making the application process simple, accessible, and user-friendly.

It was particularly encouraging to see this activation attract even greater interest than during the previous year’s takeover. The increased foot traffic reflected the growing impact of the initiative, with many community members expressing appreciation for the opportunity to receive direct assistance and immediate access to information. This activation once again demonstrated Boland College’s commitment to breaking down barriers to access and bringing educational opportunities directly to the communities it serves.

More than a broadcast, the radio takeover served as a platform for institutional storytelling—giving voice to students and staff while strengthening the College’s connection with its broader community. The initiative also reinforced Boland College’s growing presence in public engagement spaces, allowing the institution to share its vision, achievements, and transformation journey in an accessible and engaging format.

Following the success of its second radio takeover, Boland College continues to explore innovative communication platforms to amplify its impact and strengthen stakeholder engagement. The College remains committed to positioning itself as a leading TVET institution that embraces innovation, collaboration, and student success.
