Boland College recently hosted the Microsoft Ikamva Digital Roadshow at its Stellenbosch Campus, reinforcing its commitment to digital transformation in education and equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven economy.

The roadshow, held on 22 April, formed part of a national initiative to introduce and integrate Ikamva Digital into teaching and learning environments. The platform provides students and lecturers with access to digital tools, learning resources, and career development opportunities aimed at improving academic success and workplace readiness.

The event featured interactive activation stations, on-the-spot student registrations, and engagement sessions with lecturers and management, focusing on practical ways to embed digital tools into the curriculum. Student ambassadors played a key role in driving peer-to-peer engagement, while incentives and live demonstrations created a dynamic and accessible onboarding experience.

A dedicated session with academic leadership and lecturers explored how Ikamva Digital can enhance teaching efficiency, streamline assignment management, and improve the monitoring of student performance. Discussions also addressed strategies for effective digital adoption, lecturer support, and structured student onboarding.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Principal: Academic Services, Mrs Mpati, emphasised the importance of embracing digital innovation in the TVET sector: “At Boland College, we recognise that digital platforms like Ikamva are not just tools, but enablers of student success. By integrating technology into our teaching and learning practices, we are strengthening both academic outcomes and the development of critical soft skills such as communication, adaptability, and problem-solving, skills that are essential for employability in today’s workforce.”

The integration of Ikamva Digital aligns with Boland College’s strategic focus on producing graduates who are not only technically competent but also future-ready. Through access to digital learning environments, students are better equipped to develop essential 21st-century competencies, including digital literacy, collaboration, and self-directed learning.

Benefits for TVET Colleges include:
– Enhanced student engagement through interactive digital platforms
– Improved teaching efficiency and streamlined academic processes
– Real-time performance tracking and data-driven decision-making
– Development of soft skills critical for the workplace
– Increased graduate employability through exposure to digital tools and career pathways
– Strengthened alignment between education and industry demands

The roadshow highlighted the role of partnerships between education and technology stakeholders in transforming the student experience and ensuring that TVET colleges remain institutions of first choice for quality, relevant, and future-focused education.

Boland College continues to champion innovation and collaboration as it prepares students not just for employment, but for meaningful participation in a digital economy.
