ALLAN GRAY MAKERS INTER-COLLEGE ENTREPRENEURSHIP COMPETITION

Allan Gray Makers, once again demonstrating their commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, is proudly sponsoring the 2023 Inter-College Entrepreneurship Competition. Following the success of the previous year’s event, the competition is open to all students enrolled at a TVET College, presenting them with an opportunity to showcase their business ideas and existing ventures. Boland College, with its remarkable students and dedicated lecturers, has eagerly participated in this exciting competition. The recently concluded inter-campus competition held at Head Office unveiled the exceptional talent and passion of Boland College’s entrepreneurial minds.

On Saturday, 27 May 2023, the atmosphere at Head Office buzzed with enthusiasm as 16 students from the Paarl, Stellenbosch, and Worcester campuses presented their business pitches to a panel of judges.

After careful deliberation, the panel of judges faced the challenging task of selecting two contestants from each category to represent Boland College in the upcoming regional competition scheduled for July. The chosen students who will be moving on to the next round are:

“I have a business idea” category:

  1. Mbalentle Thsangana (Stellenbosch Campus)
  2. Calwayne Lottering (Worcester Campus)

“I have a general business” category:

  1. Robynique Daniels (Paarl Campus)
  2. Ray-nick De Jongh (Paarl Campus)

Boland College would like to express its gratitude to Macmillan Education for their generous sponsorship. They not only provided goodie bags for each contestant but also contributed four tablets for the regional round participants, further empowering them in their entrepreneurial journey.

Special recognition goes to the dedicated lecturers at Boland College who consistently inspire and encourage their students to reach for their dreams. Their unwavering support has been invaluable in nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit amongst our students.

In addition, a heartfelt thank you is extended to the following individuals who played pivotal roles in ensuring the success of the competition:

  • Mr. Charles Goodwin
  • Ms. Nomalizo Mpati
  • Mr. Hyacinth Adams, the coordinator of all things related to the entrepreneurship competition.
  • The judges: Ms. Olga Bastille, Ms. Lizhette Grobler, and Ms. Chante Madumbo
  • Ms. Majida Karriem
  • The ever-present Marketing team: Ms. Minette Kilian and Ms. Danel Conradie

A special mention goes to Ms. Romenia Baxter, who diligently organized all transportation arrangements and ensured that the students were provided with a delicious lunch, despite her inability to join the event on Saturday.

As we eagerly anticipate the regional competition, we are confident that our talented students will continue to shine brightly.

This competition not only allows a space for students to showcase their business ideas but also provides a springboard for existing ventures. With the regional competition on the horizon, Boland College’s talented students are poised to make their mark and bring recognition to their institution.
