ASHWIN PLAATJIES – PAARL CAMPUS’ YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR

Ashwin Plaatjies from Gouda, a N6 Financial Management student at Boland College’s (BC) Paarl Campus, has been chosen by a local newspaper, the Drakenstein Gazette, as the Gazette Entrepreneur winner for the month of April.

Ashwin sells cleaning products from his home – he started on a small scale, but has big plans to expand his business. He started last year after borrowing R1 000 from his aunt and then used the money to buy 81 units of cleaning products. He made a profit of R3 240.

Said Ashwin: “My idea is to reach out to schools and clinics that need cleaning the most, but do not have the best support. I started my business because of circumstances and I realized I had to come up with an idea to boost our household income.”

He hopes to expand to such an extent that he will be able to one day start his own cutlery and crockery company. He adds: “I wish to improve our economic situation from the crisis we are in now to a better tomorrow.”

Ashwin sells a wide variety of cleaning products, which are bottled in 5 litre cans. For more information about his business, call him on 084 039 1229 or e-mail akaplaatjies@gmail.com
